How to Start Your Own Beauty Blog Using WordPress
Now that you’ve been inspired, let’s move on to how to create your own beauty blog with WordPress. There are four basic steps to getting started:
- Choosing a Great WordPress Hosting
- Choose a domain name
1. Choose a great WordPress host
You first need to host your WordPress site somewhere. We highly recommend WPEngine’s managed WordPress hosting (starting at $35/month) as they handle installation, backups, and updates for you. Flywheel is another option that offers managed WordPress hosting, and it’s cheaper than WPEngine (offering a similar platform for $28, or a smaller plan for as little as $14 a month) – so if you’re on a budget, it might be a better fit. If you’re really short on cash and want to start small, you can check out Bluehost, which starts at $2.95 per month, the recommended host for WordPress.
There are many top WordPress hosting options to choose from. Whichever you choose, make sure you choose a host that can provide you with managed WordPress or a one-click WordPress installation.
Choose a domain name (the URL of your blog)
You also need a domain name. Some hosting packages include your first year free domain name (like Bluehost). However, if your console doesn’t include this feature, it can easily be purchased separately. We love GoDaddy, but most registrars work the same way. Search for the URL you want, buy it (we also recommend adding a privacy and SSL certificate), and point your new domain to your host. Then you can start blogging
notes: We can’t tell you exactly how to do this as it will vary depending on which registry and host you are using. Thankfully, every signup and hosting company has instructions on how to do this on their website…if in doubt, ask their customer support for help.
Because of the commitment required, you might not be ready to jump into online hosting, and that’s okay. You can also choose to install WordPress on your own computer. This is a great way to practice offline or design a website. Although it looks complicated, it’s actually not that difficult. Depending on your operating system, one of our previous articles will walk you through the process:
- Install WordPress Locally on Mac Using MAMP, WAMP or Ubuntu
- Easily build your website locally with Flywheel Localization
- Use DesktopServer to build multiple local sites
However, once you’re ready to move your website online, you’ll definitely need to reconsider our advice above for the right hosting – unless your blog is online, the world won’t be able to see your blog! With WordPress installed (either locally or on your new hosting plan), it’s time to check out themes.
2. Choose a theme
Simply put, themes control the look of your WordPress site. There are many themes available (there are many Free option as well as).
