It’s built entirely with JavaScript. It communicates with WordPress using the WordPress REST API. This technology stack makes applications lighter, faster and very flexible.

Calypso WordPress Desktop App Features

What makes Calypso so great? Lots, but here are some highlights.

Open Source License

Calypso is available under an open source license. This is a big move for developers as it opens up the app to a wider audience. This is in keeping with the trend of releasing important software components so that a large number of users can use it without worrying about licensing and usage costs.

speed and efficiency

JavaScript and WordPress.com REST API make applications faster. The app loads almost instantly, which is an important aspect of the user experience.

Site Statistics View

Calypso provides statistics for all websites you add to the app. You can see details of all your visitors, the search terms they used, page and post views, and top recommended sites.

Limitations of Calypso

The current version of the Calypso desktop application still has some limitations. One is that you cannot manage your website unless you install and activate Jetpack.

Jetpack for WordPress

If Jetpack doesn’t play nicely with their theme, this can be a problem for the site of choice (although most users shouldn’t have this problem).

in conclusion

If you want to update your tech stack, and more importantly, if you want to take the burden off managing multiple WordPress sites, I would recommend Calypso. Another good reason to use Calypso is that it’s fast, responsive, and offers real-time management through a responsive design that lets you work on a variety of devices.

I believe Calypso will be the foundation for other JavaScript and REST API driven WordPress site management portals and desktop applications in the future.
